A spotlight on InZiv: a MicroLED Industry Association member

We're happy to interview InZiv, as part of our series of interviews with MicroLED Industry Association members. InZiv develops testing and inspection equipment for display makers focusing mostly on MicroLED displays (but also QLED and OLED).

Q: Can you introduce your company and technology?

InZiv is a leader in display testing and inspection, providing high-resolution testing and inspection equipment to today’s foremost advanced display developers and manufacturers. InZiv’s proprietary nano-optical technology specializes in microLED displays, but also extends to QLED and OLED. With the size of pixels now reaching the single-micron scale, our testing equipment provides comprehensive data and nanometric resolution, empowering display manufacturers to improve their manufacturing processes, lower production costs, and enable greater access to the use of these displays by all consumers. Based in Israel, the company was founded in 2018, and counts a number of the world’s leading display manufacturers among its customers.

Q: Can you say why you joined the microLED association and what it is you hope to achieve?

We are very excited to be a part of the microLED association. The microLED industry is in a very dynamic and exciting phase right now. I believe it will be helpful for all members of the industry to work together in creating a common language around the challenges and opportunities in the field. I look forward to collaborating with other players across the microLED ecosystem to address some of the most pressing challenges in microLED manufacturing.

Q: What is your biggest challenge, and success to date in the microLED industry?

As we started out in 2018, our biggest challenge was proving ourselves, as a small start-up based in Israel, in an industry with some very prominent competitors and potential customers. It has been extremely gratifying to watch the market come to understand that our nano-optical InZiv’s technology provides a unique solution to the key challenges in microLED testing. Today, I am happy to share, we count among our customers some of the world’s leading companies in display development and manufacturing.

Q: Can you detail your latest prototype/demonstration?

We recently worked on a demonstration for a world-leading display manufacturer, in which we showed how our system can perform several key measurements: External Quantum Efficiency (EQE), angular measurements and EL even on the smallest, most sensitive microLEDs. EQE offers very important information for display manufacturers regarding the efficiency of their microLED chips: how many photons are generated in relation to the number of electrons that are applied. Angular measurements are also a data-point very much in demand, as manufacturers want to better understand the angular distribution of the light that is emitted from each microLED chip.  High resolution EL measurements are a critical test in determining the health of a microLED. InZiv offers the ability to see EL distribution on the smallest microLEDs, without any damage.

As the size of microLEDs continues to drop, standard solutions become more limited.  InZiv offers both accuracy and ease of use for these critical measurements. Each demo of this sort further validates the critical need for a solution to these new demands, and shows just how helpful InZiv’s technology can be in addressing these challenges.

Q: How do you see microLEDs changing the display industry in the next 5-10 years?

Once the industry is able to solve a number of the current key challenges in manufacturing, I believe we will see a dramatic rise in the use of microLEDs in many consumer devices. There is a great incentive for the display manufacturers to bring microLEDs to commercialization, as microLEDs are the key to unlocking some of the most exciting technologies currently in development. Entire consumer-device markets like AR should begin to take off within the next 5 years, and this in particular will be a huge driver of the market. In addition, microLEDs should create a very high-end, nearly lifelike image, which will eventually effect all of the displays in our lives.

I am very excited that InZiv is already playing an important role in this unfolding reality, and I look forward to the coming years ahead.
