The project will adopt MICLEDI's CMOS microLED production process, and Kopin's backplane and driving technologies. Kopin will also contribute its deep experience in manufacturing complete display systems.

In July 2023, Kopin announced that it has reached an important milestone in its 2Kx2K high brightness microLED microdisplay development project, as it received the first verification samples, that utilize the company's proprietary backplane and drive technology. These displays achieved brightness levels of over 2.8 million nits.

In 2021, Kopin announced an agreement with a leading Japanese consumer electronics maker to develop 2K x 2K full-color microLED microdisplays. Earlier in 2021, year Kopin announced an agreement with Jade Bird Display (JBD) to develop 1" 2K 2k monochrome microLED microdisplays.

In 2022, MICLEDI announced a partnership with IQE, a supplier of compound semiconductor wafer products and advanced material solutions to the global semiconductor industry, to develop microLEDs for AR products.

In March 2022, MICLEDI announced that it will partner with GlobalFoundries in a manufacturing collaboration to develop microdisplays. MICLEDI's solution will be combined with GlobalFoundries'€™ 22FDX platform to enable MICLEDI to mass produce microLED arrays.

In December 2021 MICLEDI demonstrated what it says is the industry'€™s first microLED arrays-for-AR built on a 300mm CMOS manufacturing platform. In August 2022 the company announced a partnership with MicroLED Industry Association member QustomDot to develop full-color microLED microdisplays with QD color conversion. The company also launched microLED microdisplays with integrated micro-lenses, which it says it is a first for the display industry.
