GaN microLED material developer Porotech raises £3 million

Porous-GaN material platform developer Porotech raised £3 million as it accelerates its microLED production technology development.

Porotech developed a new class of porous GaN semiconductor material, which according to the company offers performance improvements over current materials. In November 2020, the company announced what it says is the first commercial native red LED epiwafer for micro-LED applications.

Porotech reveals now that it has been working with some of the "biggest global names in display technology", and has been generating revenues for the past 10 months (the company was established in November 2020 and has secured a £1.5 million seed investment in 2020).

Porotech will use the new funds to expand its novel approach to integrate InGaN-based red, green and blue (RGB) micro-LEDs for full-colour microdisplays. Porotech’s technology enables the production of red, green and blue LEDs to be made with the same GaN material, integrated on a single wafer
