Aixtron sees initial indications of re-investment in AR microLED applications
In April 2025, Aixtron reported that its LED and microLED revenues were lower than in 2024 - and the company expects its microLED revenues to remain lower throughout the year. Today, however, Aixtron reported its financial results for Q3 2025, saying that it is seeing "initial indications of re-investment in AR microLED applications".

Aixtron says that this development has the potential to positively contribute to its business in the coming year.
Google, Aixtron, imec.Xpand and JCDecaux shared their innovations and views in past MicroLED-Connect events. Register now for our 2025 program!
MicroLED-Connect is the microLED industry's top event series, offering a combination of exciting online webinars and a flagship annual on-site event. Our next meeting is on 23-25 September 2025, at the High Tech Campus, Eindhoven, Netherlands. MicroLED-Connect is co-organised by TechBlick and the MicroLED Industry Association and offers the best way to connect with the global MicroLED and AR/VR display industries and markets.
In this article, we will share a few short videos from past events. First up, we have Google's Bernard Kress, director of Google AR, that gave an excellent talk about the future of smart glasses. Interestingly, Bernard says that the two most important considerations are fashion, and prescription vision integration!
Aixtron reports a solid Q1 2025, but microLED tool revenues are weak
Aixtron reported its financial results for Q1 2025, with revenues of 112.5 million Euro, saying that it demonstrated a strong performance in a soft market environment. The company exceeded the upper end of its guidance range. Particularly encouraging are the positive developments in the market for photonics applications. The company did not change its guidance for the full year 2025.
Aixtron says that demand in its send markets is still weak, though, and especially its LED and microLED revenues were lower (and will remain lower throughout the year) compared to 2024.
Aixtron is highly positive on the microLED industry, expects large tool orders in 2026 as producers aim to start ramping up production by 2027
Aixtron announced its financial results for Q3 2024, with solid orders and revenue, despite a slight miss on guidance due to a project delay. This project was a large order for a microLED customer, with tools shipments pushed to December instead of October.

Aixtron says that "despite the news from Apple and ams OSRAM" the microLED industry is continuing to work on the technology, and the company received orders from several customers building R&D and pilot production lines. Aixtron expects its microLED revenues in FY2024 to be at high double-digit million euros.
Aixtron reports increased sales of microLED production systems
Aixtron reports its financial results for Q2 2024, with revenues of 131.8 million Euro down 24% from Q2 2023 but up 11% over the last quarter.
Aixtron says that its LED production systems sales increased in the quarter, and reached 43% of its total equipment sales (around 44.7 million Euro), up from 5% a year ago (and 37% last quarter). This was mostly driven by sales of microLED production systems.

HC Semitek installs the production equipment at its 6-inch microLED epiwafer fab in Jinwan
In August 2023, China-based HC Semitek started building its microLED epiwafer production line in Jinwan District, Zhuhai, China. The first phase of the $700 million microLED fab is expected to enter production by the end of 2024.
HC Semitek announced a few days ago that it has moved in and installed the production equipment in its new line. The company says it is on track to produce the first sample wafers in Q3 2024, and mass production is expected by the end of the year. The investment in the first phase will total $275 million USD.
Aixtron reports strong momentum for MicroLED production systems
Aixtron reports strong results for its recent quarter, with both revenues and profit significantly higher than last year, driven by strong demand for SiC production systems for power electronics.
Aixtron reports revenues of 19.6 million Euro (up from 6.9 million last year) for LED and microLED systems. There's a strong new momentum for microLED production systems, which accounted for 37% of the equipment order intake. This development was boosted by the continued development activities of Micro LED customers, who are continuing to invest in development and pilot lines for the commercialization of Micro LED technology.
HC Semitek starts building a $700 million microLED production line in Zhuhai, China
China-based HC Semitek is embarking on a 5 billion Yuan project (almost $700 million USD) to produce microLED wafers in Jinwan District, Zhuhai, China. The project will have three phases, with the first one (estimated at $275 million) has officially started last month.
HC Semitek hopes to light up the new production line in September 2024, and to start production by December 2024. When all three phases are complete, the new production line will have a yearly capacity of 58,000 microLED wafers (we do not the wafer size at this project, but we estimate these are 8-inch wafers). It is not clear from the reports, but this production line may also produce mini LEDs, not just microLEDs.
ams OSRAM qualified Aixtron's 200 mm microLED production systems
Aixtron announced today that ams OSRAM has qualified Aixtron's AIX G5+ C and G10-AsP MOCVD systems on 200mm wafers for Micro LED production.
ams Osram will be using Aixtron's systmes at its upcoming 200 mm mass production line in Malaysia, which is expected to begin production in 2024.
