A spotlight on Lextar: a Microled Industry Association member

We're happy to interview Lextar, as part of our new series of interviews with MicroLED Industry Association members. Lextar, a global LED developer, was established in 2008 in Taiwan as a subsidiary of AU Optronics, and is now part of Ennostar following a merger with Epistar. Lextar is producing microLED chips, and has launched its first commercial microLED products In 2018.

Q: Hello! Can you introduce your company and technology?

Lextar Electronics, a subsidiary of Ennostar Inc., was founded in May 2008 and has top research and developed team on T.E.M.O.( Thermal.Electrical .Mechanical. Optical ) vertical integration technology with over 2,300 patents worldwide and offers excellent optoelectronics technology solutions and services based on great expertise and group support. Lextar’s products cover LCD backlights, Mini LED, automotive, 3D/2D sensing, UV sterilization/curing and professional lighting which are widely applied in home appliances, automotive, industrial areas, etc.

In order to accelerate the investment of advanced applications and improve operation efficiency, Lextar and EPISTAR jointly established the best compound semiconductor investment platform - Ennostar Holdings (stock code 3714) through share swap in 2021.

PlayNitride is working with customers on automotive microLED displays, expects first concept car demonstrations in 2024

Digitimes reports that PlayNitride is starting to sample microLED panels for 5 or 6 potential automotive customers. The customers are interested in flexible and transparent panels, and they have engaged PlayNitride in custom R&D projects to develop the required displays.

PlayNitride's CEO, Charles Li, noted that the company expects its customers to launch several concept car models in early 2024, equipped with the new microLED displays.

The MicroLED Industry Association begins operations, welcomes new members

The MicroLED Industry Association (MIA) successfully concluded its kickoff meeting on August 2nd. The work plan for the coming quarter was announced, and the association members were updated on work processes, collaboration activities and plans for the future.

 

The MIA is happy to announce that there are already over 15 members in the microLED association. In addition to its pre-launch founding members, the MIA welcomes the new members that joined since the official announcement on July 13. These companies include 3D Micromac, ASM Pacific Technology group, ClassOne Technology, Radiant Vision Systems and the Ennostar group (Epistar, Lextar, Yenrich and Unikorn).

Epistar and Lextar formally merge, Ennostar Incorporation is established

In 2020 Taiwan's LED developers Epistar and Lextar announced plans to establish a joint holding company, effectively merging the two companies. Last week the company, called Ennostar Incorporation was formally launched.

Ennostar will focus on rapid development of mini-LED and micro-LED technologies and displays. The company has three main areas, divided between its daughter companies: Epistar will focus on LED epitaxy and chip, Lextar will focus on packaging and module, and Unikorn Semiconductor Corp. (under Epistar) will develop advanced compound semiconductor foundry.

XDC and Lextar entered into development, licensing and services agreements

LED developer Lextar and microLED display developer X Display Company (XDC) announced that the two companies entered into a development, licensing and services agreements. Lextar licensed XDC's IP and Lextar will supply its high-performance microLED chips to XDC's customers.

Lextar says that this agreement will accelerate the commercialization of next-generation microLED displays, and its customers can now benefit from a one-stop service, from microLED chips to display modules.

Epistar and Lextar to merge, focus on miniLEDs and microLEDs for future growth

Epistar and Lextar announced plans to establish a joint holding company, effectively merging the two companies.

The plan is to delist both companies from Taiwan's stock exchange and list the new company by the end of October 2020. The two companies will continue to operate independently, but the holding company's main focus for its future revenue growth will be on mini LEDs and microLEDs products and technologies.

Lextar to demonstrate a 5.1" 30,000 nits transparent microLED display prototype

LED developer Lextar Electronics announced that next week at Touch Taiwan 2019 it will showcase a 5.1" transparent active-matrix microLED display that achieves an extremely high brightness - 30,000 nits.

This is Lextar's first public demonstration of a micro-LED display. Last year at Touch Taiwan 2018 the company unveiled its first micro-LED chips. The company recognizes that its micro-LED display technology will not be ready for commercialization before 2020 at the earliest.
