US-based Saphlux was established in 2014 at Yale University to develop a semi-polar gallium-nitride on sapphire material that enables next generation high power and high performance LEDs and laser diodes.
Saphlux is developing technologies aimed towards micro-LED displays. The company's NPDQ color conversion technology utilizes quantum dots etched into the GaN LED itself.
In 2022 it was reported that Leyard is ready to mass produce microLED panels that use Saphlux's NPQD technology. Leyard owns 12% of Saphlux. In 2023 Saphlux demonstrated a 0.39" full-color NPDQ microLED microdisplay.
In 2026, Saphlux raised $43.5 million in its Series C funding round.

Ennostar demonstrated a much-improved microLED optical I/O solution
Ennostar announced a major advance in its microLED based optical I/O development project, and demonstrated a new prototype that offers substantially higher modulation bandwidth compared to its previous effort, while simultaneously maintaining low power consumption and excellent thermal management
The company says that it was able to increase the single-channel -3 dB modulation bandwidth of its blue Micro LED to 2.1 GHz at a current density of 2 kA/cm2. Ennostar's new demonstration also features a modulation bandwidth of up to 3.3 GHz at a current density of 5 kA/cm2.
Ennostar and Saphlux to accelerate the commercialization of microLED microdisplays and optical I/O solutions
Ennostar and Saphlux have signed a strategic partnership to accelerate the commercialization of Saphlux's semi-polar microLED technologies, for both AR microdisplays and optical I/O solutions.
This collaboration will combine Saphlux's proprietary semi-polar GaN material platform with Ennostar's large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
Saphlux raises $43.5 million to bring its full-color microLED microdisplays to market
Saphlux has successfully completed its Series C funding round, raising 300 million Yuan (around $43.5 million USD)., from several Chinese investment funds and VCs.
Saphlux says that it will utilize the funds to accelerate its R&D and achieve mass production of full-color AR microdisplays.
Vuzix and TCL CSoT to co-develop microLED based AR solutions
Vuzix announced a long-term partnership with TCL CSoT to co-develop and integrate microLED displays with waveguide optics, with an aim to deliver integration-friendly, scalable, and cost-effective optical solutions for the smart glasses industry. This new co-development project will utilize TCL CSoT's microLED microdisplays, and Vuzix's waveguides.
The two companies have already finalized a first integration of TCL CSoT's monochrome green microLEDs with Vuzix's waveguides, and have demonstrated a first prototype at a recent tradeshow in China. The two companies are now actively co-developing a full-color microLED and waveguide optical solution, with a planned release in early 2026.
Saphlux and Vuzix to co-develop optical solutions for microLED powered AI/AR glasses
MicroLED developer Saphlux announced that is has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with AR developer Vuzix, to co-develop high performance optical solutions for next-gen microLED-powered AI/AR glasses.
In this partnership, Saphlux will supply its T1 (first-gen) 0.13" monochrome microdisplay for Vuzix to incorporate it with its proprietary waveguides and system design expertise. Looking forward, the two companies plan to expand their collaboration to develop a full-color AR optical solution.

Saphlux launched its latest OLED microdisplay technology, its T3 Series. The company unveiled a 0.13" 320x240 (subpixel pitch of 4 micron) monolithic full-color microLED microdisplay, based on its proprietary NPQD (Nanopore Quantum Dot) technology.
Saphlux says that the new display offers high luminous efficiency, compact size, and superior reliability, and is an improvement over its previous generation technology. In addition to the new display, Saphlux say that it is collaborating with Leyard to develop an AR glasses product based on the T1-0.13” monochrome display, with plans to release a new generation of AR glasses equipped with the T3-0.13” full-color display by the end of 2025.

MicroLED Connect is a global forum for microLED and related technologies and applications, which will take place at the Convention Center on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven on 25-26 September. The MicroLED Connect is organized by two industry veterans, Metalgrass’ Ron Mertens and TechBlick’s Khasha Ghaffarzadeh, each bringing his unique knowledge and experience to plan this extraordinary event.
We had a few questions to ask Khasha Ghaffarzadeh, our co-organizer, about his vision for this conference.
Q. Hi Kasha! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the MicroLED Connect event - what did you have in mind when planning it and what’s special about it?
Hi! Well, it is the first worldwide onsite conference and exhibition dedicated to MicroLED technology. Up until now, MicroLEDs were highlighted in other display events, but never as the main technology in a dedicated conference. We felt that this emerging technology deserves to be the main focus. The event will bring together the entire value chain from around the world- from material suppliers to equipment makers to display makers and semiconductor companies and final OEMs. There is enormous interest in this technology and in our event, and so we expect a sell-out crowd.
When planning this event, we put extra emphasis on social events and networking opportunities. We have a rich agenda that transcends the usual talks and lectures, and includes social gatherings, organized visits to companies in the area and more. We wish to give attendees the chance to not only listen and learn, but also interact and connect. We put a strong focus on in-person experience, hoping to forge deep partnerships amongst our participants. That’s actually where the name “MicroLED Connect” comes from!
Saphlux Unveils T2 Series Monolithic Full-Color Micro-Display with Enhanced Brightness and Color Performance
In a recent announcement, Saphlux, Inc. revealed that its NPQD® Monolithic Full-Color Micro- LED (mLED) technology has successfully undergone a new round of technological upgrades. Following this advancement, the company has launched the enhanced T2 series micro-displays.
The Saphlux T series micro-displays incorporate core technologies, including NPQD® and large-scale silicon-based bonding, specifically tailored for the AR display applications. The series currently encompasses 0.12-inch monochrome single-color (red, green, blue) micro-displays and 0.39-inch monolithic full-color micro-displays.

US-based Saphlux has developed a 0.39" full-color microLED Microdisplay, based on the company's NPQD color conversion technology. You can see a sample of Saphlux's T1-0.39 RGB display in the video below.
Saphlux's first microdisplay offers a maximum white brightness of 250,000 nits, and a wide color gamut. The company is using high-EQE blue microLEDs (it has a partner that supplies the LEDs) and its NPQD technology achieves 67% photon conversion efficiency. The company's technology enables a pixel pitch of sub-2 microns.
