Polar Light and Finetech awarded a 1.1 million Euro project to develop dual-color microLED microdisplays
Pyramidical GaN microLED developer Polar Light Technologies has been awarded an EU Eurostars grant to develop a dual-color microLED microdisplay prototype deposited using the company's bottom-up mask-based deposition process.
The project, called 2ndGenMicroLED, will run for 18-month project, and has a total budget of 1.1 million Euro.
Polar Light Technologies fabricated its first microLED microdisplay, using its red pyramidal microLEDs
Pyramidical GaN microLED developer Polar Light Technologies announced that it has fabricated its first microLED microdisplay prototype, using its pyramidal micro-LED devices. The company says that this important milestone confirms the possibility of integrating the pyramidal micro-LED frontplane onto a CMOS backplane.
The prototype uses monochrome (red, likely 625 nm) microLEDs, built on high-performance Sapien CMOS back-plane. The flip-chip bonding was carried out by Finetech.

Polar Light Technologies and Finetech collaborate on microLED production technologies
Pyramidical GaN microLED developer Polar Light Technologies announce a partnership with die bonding solution developer Finetech, to co-develop microLED technologies. The two companies already started developing microLED microdisplay applications.
Polar Light Technologies and Finetech developed a modified flip-chip cold bonding technique that ensures accurate alignment between the microLEDs and the electronics. The two companies say that in early trials, this method showed an impressive 85% success rate, proving its potential for large-scale manufacturing.
