Vuzix and TCL CSoT to co-develop microLED based AR solutions

Vuzix announced a long-term partnership with TCL CSoT to co-develop and integrate microLED displays with waveguide optics, with an aim to deliver integration-friendly, scalable, and cost-effective optical solutions for the smart glasses industry. This new co-development project will utilize TCL CSoT's microLED microdisplays, and Vuzix's waveguides.

The two companies have already finalized a first integration of TCL CSoT's monochrome green microLEDs with Vuzix's waveguides, and have demonstrated a first prototype at a recent tradeshow in China. The two companies are now actively co-developing a full-color microLED and waveguide optical solution, with a planned release in early 2026.

Interestingly, this is Vuzix's third microLED partnership. It was only a few days ago that Vuzix announced a strategic collaboration agreement with Saphlux to co-develop next-gen microLED-powered AI/AR glasses. Vuzix has also been working with JBD for many years, developing and producing AR solutions based on Jade Bird's microLED displays.

In May 2025 TCL CSoT demonstrated the world's smallest microLED microdisplay, at just 0.05-inches. The display offers a resolution of 256x86 (5080 PPI), with a 5 micron pitch. The display is a monochrome green color, with a brightness that exceeds 4 million nits. TCL says that the CMOS backplane is highly efficient, and the total power consumption of the display is below 10 mW. This was the only microLED microdisplay TCL CSOT ever demonstrated.
