Lenovo shows a prototype laptop with a 17.3-inch transparent microLED display, produced by AUO

Lenovo is demonstrating a new prototype laptop device that uses a 17.3" transparent microLED display (produced by AUO). This is just a prototype at this stage, Lenovo says it has no plans to actually commercialize its Project Crystal device.

Lenovo suggests several use cases for such a device - for example sharing information (in a doctor's office, or a hotel desk), or AR applications such as identifying objects behind the screen (although this seems more suitable for higher mobility devices such as tablets or smartphones).

A spotlight on VueReal: a MicroLED Industry Association member

We're happy to interview Reza Chaji, CEO and founder at VueReal, as part of our series of interviews with MicroLED Industry Association members. Canada-based VueReal developed a unique microLED display production process (which it refers to as a MicroSolid Printing Platform) and the company now offers a turnkey platform that enables its partners and customers to develop a custom display and fabricate it at VueReal's own pilot production line.

AUO shows new automotive microLED display prototypes at CES 2024

AUO is demonstrating several new displays at CES 2024, including some new automotive microLEDs.

The first display is a new touch-enabled transparent microLED panel that is integrated in vehicle side windows. AUO did not disclose any technical specifications. In the past, AUO demonstrated many transparent microLEDs, including a 13.5" 1920x1080 panel shown in 2023, with a transparency of 55% and a high brightness of 5,000 nits. The microLEDs used in that display were 30 micron in size.

VueReal starts shipping high-resolution high-transparency microLED displays to customers

VueReal announced that it has developed and started shipping high-resolution and high-transparency microLED displays to its customers. Using the company's own MicroSolid Printing Platform, Vuereal integrates microLEDs into an active-matrix microLED display to enable high-efficiency and high quality displays with tunable transparency (from 80% to zero).

VueReal offers a turnkey platform that enables its partners and customers to develop a custom display and fabricate it at VueReal's own pilot production line. VueReal says that it is now accepting new orders for high-resolution and high-transparency displays.

Yenrich, spun-off from Epistar and now part of the Ennostar group, develops mini-LED and micro-LED packaging. The company is focused on direct-view displays, both miniLED based and microLED based.

Yenrich, a member of Ennostar, focuses on the development of Mini/Micro LED technology and products for fine pitch displays and provides customers with integrated solutions of front-end chips and back-end system applications.

PlayNitride showcases its latest microLED displays at Display Week 2023

Taiwan-based MicroLED developer PlayNitride (a MicroLED Industry Association member) has demonstrated its latest microLED displays at Display Week 2023.

First up we have the company's tiled large-area microLED displays, called PixeLED Matrix. The company showed a 166" vertical installation, that is made from 324 modules. The total resolution is 1440x4860 (30 PPI, or a pixel pitch of 0.833 mm). This was a very nice looking demonstration.

Sitan shows its latest microLED microdisplays and transparent displays at Display Week 2023

China-based microLED display developer Sitan Technology demonstrated its latest microLED displays at Display Week 2023.

The company has developed four microLED microdisplays: 0.13" 1024x748 monochrome, 0.18"  800x600 monochrome, 0.18” 600x400 full-color and a 0.45" monochrome FHD panel. The company's 0.13" display offers a display density of 10,000 PPI (monochrome). The company also showed small transparent microLEDs.
