According to reports, Samsung Display has began to construct a microLED wearable display pilot production facility.
The microLED line is being built within the A2 5.5-Gen AMOLED line complex in Asan, South Korea. It will handle microLED transfer, bonding, inspection and repair - this is a not a full process line, Samsung will use externally produced microLED epiwafers.
The main goal of this fab is to test whether microLED is ready for mass production, and the company is already discussing the possibility of a full commercial mass production line. If the results are positive, SDC may begin construction the full line in the second half of of 2027.
SDC started developing microLED displays many years ago, and it has demonstrated its first wearable prototype in early 2025, showing off its high 4,000 nits brightness. In October 2025 it has demonstrated a 6,000 nits flexible microLED wearable panel.
