Polar Light Technologies announced that it has produced its first MicroLEDs via its Pilot Line at VTT Technical Research Centre Finland. The company says that its process flow transfer from the laboratory to the VTT pilot line is ahead of schedule - "demonstrating the advantages of pyramidal MicroLEDs and selected area growth".
The next step for PLT is to focus on homogeneity, yield and the integration of the MicroLEDs to a CMOS backplane. The company's goal is to produce a complete microLED microdisplay in the pilot line, and towards that it will develop bonding and integration of the MicroLEDs frontplane onto the CMOS backplane.
Polar Light Technologies announced that it has signed the Pilot Line agreement with VTT only 2 months ago. The Pilot Line will cover the full manufacturing flow required for Polar Light's first microLED product, which will help the company to accelerate the validation, scaling and product readiness.
Earlier in 2026 Polar Light announced that it has produced a series of nano-scale InGaN LEDs, measuring 500 nanometers and smaller. The company says these are the smallest LEDs ever demonstrated.
The company plans to introduce its first commercial products to market in 2026, these will likely be monochrome microdisplays.
In January 2026, Polar Light announced that it has successfully closed a new financing round, raising over 5 million Euros, thus raising a total of 13 million Euros to date.
