PlayNitride updates on its optical I/O projects, confirms its chips power the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro and Samsung microLED TVs, details its new Tantium microLED display platform

Taiwan-based MicroLED developer PlayNitride held its Q2 2026 investor conference call, during which it updated on its financials - and also on its major projects and customers. PlayNitride reported revenues of 150 million TWD ($4.7 million USD), down 26% from Q2 2025 ($6.3 million) and slightly up then the first quarter of 2026 ($4.4 million).

First, PlayNitride says that its current business is quite steady. It is supplying microLED chips to both Samsung's direct-emission microLED TVs, and also to the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro smartwatch (produced by AUO).

Looking into the future, the company identifies two main growth areas - AR and optical I/O.

In the area of optical I/O, PlayNitride updates that it has entered into a strategic partnership with PhotonLoop Technology (a subsidiary of Alchip Group), where the two companies will co-develop a microLED optical I/O solution - funded by PhotonLoop. PlayNitride will start to recognize R&D revenues in the second half of 2026. The company expects first commercial results in this segment in 2028.

In the area of displays, PlayNitride discloses it is developing a new high-performance chip, branded as Tantium, that is a high-voltage, low-current microLED. This new chip will enable a dramatic reduction in power consumption, stating that it expects a total reduction in display power consumption of well over 50%, with a 80-100% increase in brightness. Tantium microLED displays will feature a lower power consumption than state-of-the-art OLEDs by 2027.

In the AR segment, PlayNitride continues its microdisplay development, which it hopes to finalize by 2027, with first end-products on the market between 2027 and 2028.
