The MicroLED Industry Association (MIA) welcomes its newest members: ITRI, KETI, Nippon Sanso and Veeco. The association keeps growing steadily through 2026, adding both equipment suppliers and leading national research institutes, as interest in microLEDs increases and the industry matures.
The MIA aims to accelerate the adoption of microLED display technologies, bringing together companies, researchers and organizations active in the MicroLED industry and providing an ideal forum for solving common technology issues, fostering cooperation and sharing relevant information, resources and tools.
ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) is Taiwan's largest applied research organization, established in 1973 and headquartered in Hsinchu. ITRI has been a driving force behind Taiwan's semiconductor and display industries, and its microLED activities span epitaxy, mass transfer and panel integration, including an in-cell technology that embeds sensors within microLED display panels. More recently ITRI has been active in adapting microLEDs for optical communication, an application that is gaining momentum as the industry moves to replace copper links inside AI data centers with optical ones.
“ITRI joins the association to collaborate with global experts, with our current focus on exploring MicroLED for optical communication”
KETI (Korea Electronics Technology Institute) is a South Korean government-funded research institute, established in 1991 and headquartered in Seongnam. KETI runs applied research programs across displays, semiconductors and electronic materials, and operates shared R&D infrastructure used by Korea's electronics industry. In microLED, KETI has collaborated with the Fraunhofer IAP on quantum dot color filters for microLED displays, and together with Kookmin University, Kyung Hee University and POSTECH it developed fin-shaped LEDs assembled by face-selective dielectrophoresis, reporting a vertical alignment rate of 91.3% and a pixel production yield of 99.93%.
“KETI joined the MicroLED Industry Association to strengthen global collaboration and contribute its research expertise and infrastructure capabilities to the advancement of next-generation MicroLED display technologies.”
Nippon Sanso is a Japanese industrial gas and equipment group. Its Taiyo Nippon Sanso business develops and produces MOCVD systems for GaN and related compound semiconductors, used for LED, UV LED and power device epitaxy. Its SR series reactors process wafers up to 150 mm, and the SR-4000HT platform was developed for high aluminum content AlGaN, depositing at temperatures above 1,300°C.
“Our MOCVD equipment is usable and valuable for MicroLED as high quality and high throughput. We willing to join and generate connection in the world wide.”
Veeco (Nasdaq: VECO), headquartered in Plainview, New York, supplies semiconductor process equipment including MOCVD, ion beam deposition and etch, laser annealing, lithography and wet processing systems. Its MOCVD platforms, the TurboDisc-based Lumina and the single-wafer Propel 300 HVM cluster system, are used for the GaN epitaxial growth of microLEDs. Aledia, a MicroLED Association member, selected Veeco's Propel 300mm platform for its microLED production fab.
“It’s an exciting time to be a part of the MicroLED industry, and Veeco is excited to be a member of the MicroLED Association. As a key supplier of MOCVD equipment for epitaxial growth of microLEDs, Veeco is committed to supporting the industry through continuous improvement of our technology to develop, fine-tune, and launch new generations of microLED technology across the spectrum of use cases and applications. Membership in the MicroLED Association allows us to engage directly with, learn from, and assist the entire ecosystem of companies and research institutes working to achieve our collective goal of bringing microLEDs into the mainstream.”
