MediaTek announced that is has developed a new active optical cable (AOC), based on its own self-developed microLED light source technology. MediaTek will officially showcase this technology at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) in April.
Active optical cables are used for short-distance, high-speed connections between servers within data centers.
In recent years, we have seen an accelerating trend of using microLEDs to develop next-gen optical interconnects.
