LG Electronics to soon show its first microLED RGB LCD TV

LG Electronics will unveil its first LCD TV powered by microLED backlighting. The company announced that the TV will be shown at CES 2026 (as it has won a CES Innovation Award).

It is not clear yet whether LG's TV will be powered by RGB microLEDs, or LEDs, but the company did say it was "micro RGB" technology.

In August 2025, Samsung Electronics officially launched its first microLED RGB TV. The TV costs around $32,000 in Korea. Samsung did not detail the actual size of its microLED dies, but it did say that they are smaller than 100 micron, which puts these at the microLED level indeed, although likely not much smaller than miniLEDs.

Last month LG Electronics announced its latest microLED ultra-large display, the MAGNIT Active Micro LED. This is the company's first microLED display that is based on an LTPS backplane (rather than a PCB one). The company says that these new displays offer increased image clarity, contrast and depth.

It is likely that LG will still focus on its OLED TVs as its main premium TV technology, and microLEDs for the very high-end segment. It will be interested to see the price point of LG's new micro RGB LCDs - but if the prices are closer to Samsung's $32,000 micro RGB TV, these are clearly not really targeting even the premium TV segment.
