A glimpse into MicroLED Connect 2026: microLEDs take on the AI data center interconnect bottleneck

MicroLED Connect 2026 is set to be the industry's premier event for microLED and next-generation display technologies, taking place on 16-17 September 2026 at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, with a world-class agenda, exhibition and networking opportunities. The event spans three co-located tracks - MicroLED, AR/VR and Optical I/O - covering everything from microLED manufacturing and displays to AR/VR optics and optical interconnects for AI infrastructure.

Here we will introduce some of the speakers and themes from the Optical I/O track, a unique forum bringing together the display, semiconductor and AI industries to address one of the defining challenges of the AI era: the interconnect bottleneck. You can explore the full agenda and event details here.

MicroLEDs for chip-to-chip and AI infrastructure communication

The track opens with keynotes framing why microLEDs are being looked at for data movement, not just displays. Microsoft will trace the path from displays to data centers, addressing the promise and reality of microLED optical I/O for next-generation AI infrastructure, while Mojo Vision will present a wafers-in, wafers-out microLED platform built for AI.

CEA-Leti will present its work toward parallel communication using GaN microLEDs for chip-to-chip communication. Avicena Tech will make the case for wide, slow and efficient optical links, redefining optical link budgets with microLEDs, and the University of California Santa Barbara will detail the development of GaN-based microLED devices for both full-color displays and high-speed optical communication.

ALLOS Semiconductors will discuss microLEDs for displays and optical interconnects, comparing the different markets and the manufacturing challenges they share. Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork will present a microLED architecture for enhanced emission directionality, applicable to both displays and optical interconnects, and Tera Electronics Corp. will introduce a wide-and-slow microLED optical I/O approach built for AI infrastructure.

MicroLED Connect 2026: time to reserve your seat!

These are just some of the optical interconnect talks on this year's agenda. MicroLED Connect 2026 also includes the co-located MicroLED and AR/VR tracks, giving attendees full access to all three conference tracks and the shared exhibition floor.
