Ennostar demonstrated a much-improved microLED optical I/O solution

Ennostar announced a major advance in its microLED based optical I/O development project, and demonstrated a new prototype that offers substantially higher modulation bandwidth compared to its previous effort, while simultaneously maintaining low power consumption and excellent thermal management

The company says that it was able to increase the single-channel -3 dB modulation bandwidth of its blue Micro LED to 2.1 GHz at a current density of 2 kA/cm2. Ennostar's new demonstration also features a modulation bandwidth of up to 3.3 GHz at a current density of 5 kA/cm2.

Ennostar says that in order to achieve these results, it has optimized both the LED epitaxial structure and the material quality it uses.

Ennostar says it will continue to enhance the performance of its solution. The company has a optical I/O roadmap that includes three different tracks: microLEDs, VCSEL, and CW-DFB lasers, likely believing that the market will end up utilizing different technologies for different optical I/O applications.

In April 2026, Ennostar demonstrated a microLED-based optical I/O solution, co-developed with AUO and Tyntek. The company is also developing microLED optical I/O technologies in collaboration with Saphlux.
