Researchers deposit cMOFs on microLEDs to enable sensitive chemiresistive gas sensing at room temperature

Researchers from the KAIST institute, in collaboration with colleagues from Korea University, Korea Basic Science Institute and Chung-Ang University, have developed a novel way to achieve chemiresistive gas sensing, using CMOFs on microLEDs.

The researchers integrated electrically conductive metal-organic frameworks (cMOFs), a promising chemiresistors due to their diverse compositions, chemical properties, porosity, and room-temperature conductivity, on top of microLEDs using a layer-by-later method. This solves the low sensitivity problem of cMOFs, and enables photoactivated gas sensing even at room-temperature.

Aixtron sees initial indications of re-investment in AR microLED applications

In April 2025, Aixtron reported that its LED and microLED revenues were lower than in 2024 - and the company expects its microLED revenues to remain lower throughout the year. Today, however, Aixtron reported its financial results for Q3 2025, saying that it is seeing "initial indications of re-investment in AR microLED applications".

Magic Leap collaborates with Google's Raxium to develop microLED powered AR glasses

Magic Leap, during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, announced a new strategic move into AR glasses development - and also a renewed three-year partnership with Google. 

As part of the event, Magic Leap also unveiled a new AR glasses prototype, powered by MicroLED displays developed by Google's Raxium. Magic Leap says that its optics and waveguide design enable it to provide superior clarity and stability compared to other solutions.

JBD raises $140 million in its Series B2 funding round

China-based microLED microdisplay developer JBD has successfully completed its Series B2 financing round, raising $140 million USD (1 billion RMB). The round was led by Hundun Investment and CITIC Jingshi. Other VCs that participated include previous investors CITIC Securities, Lightspeed China Partners, Yinbai Investment, Zhiwei Capital, and more.

JBD says that it will use the funds to accelerate it's microLED microdisplay R&D, and commercialize its new technologies.

LG Electronics launches LTPS microLED tiled displays, branded as MAGNIT Active Micro LED

LG Electronics announced its latest microLED ultra-large display, the MAGNIT Active Micro LED. This is the company's first microLED display that is based on an LTPS backplane (rather than a PCB one). The company says that these new displays offer increased image clarity, contrast and depth.

LG's new MAGNIT displays are now available in Korea. While these are tiled displays, it seems that LGE is offering a single size - 136" with a 4K (3840x216) resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The new displays are powered by LG's 6-Gen α9 AI Processor and its WebOS platform, and include built-in 100 Watt speakers and enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) for lossless playback of high-quality audio. Finally, LGE says that the new microLED displays received a Color Consistency Wide Viewing certification from TÜV Rheinland.

Researchers from BOE improve microLED light output by adopting a novel package scheme

Researchers from BOE reported on a new microLED package design, that improves light output from microLED displays. 

The new design combines a high-refractive-index transparent adhesive, a high-reflectivity white adhesive and a microlens array. This new design increases light output, and uses the sidewall emission to significantly improve the optical efficiency of microLED displays. In addition to the adhesives and MLA, the researchers adopted a patterned design of the black matrix (BM) cover plate to further reduce light loss and improves the contrast. The result is a highly efficient display with an improved image quality.

HKC launches new Mianyang direct-view LED fab, eyes microLED expansion in 2026

Chinese display maker HKC announced that its new direct-view LED fab in Mianyang is starting operation. The company says that this is a significant milestone for the company and its long-term strategy in the large-area display industry sector.

It is our understanding that currently the new fab will produce LED direct view displays that utilize miniLEDs, but in the future it will also produce microLEDs. In fact, HKC announced that "in the face of the rapid growth of the global MicroLED technology market" it will expand the microLED capacity in 2026. In the long-term its main application targets for its direct-view LED displays are commercial screens, home theaters, and automotive displays.
