Kopin raises $41 million from strategic investors to develop several technologies and products, including a full color microLED microdisplay

Kopin announced that it will raise $41 million in a private investment in public equity financing (PIPE agreement), from three companies - Theon International, Ondas Holdings and Unusual Machines.

Kopin says that the funds will be used to develop several new product lines and technologies, including its color microLED microdisplays.

Credo acquires microLED optical interconnects developer Hyperlume

High-speed connectivity solution developer Credo announced that it has acquired microLED-based chip-to-chip optical interconnect developer Hyperlume. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Earlier this year, Hyperlume raised $12.5 million USD in its seed round. Hyperlume was established in 2022 to develop a low-energy optical interconnect solution for chip-to-chip communication.

Vuzix and TCL CSoT to co-develop microLED based AR solutions

Vuzix announced a long-term partnership with TCL CSoT to co-develop and integrate microLED displays with waveguide optics, with an aim to deliver integration-friendly, scalable, and cost-effective optical solutions for the smart glasses industry. This new co-development project will utilize TCL CSoT's microLED microdisplays, and Vuzix's waveguides.

The two companies have already finalized a first integration of TCL CSoT's monochrome green microLEDs with Vuzix's waveguides, and have demonstrated a first prototype at a recent tradeshow in China. The two companies are now actively co-developing a full-color microLED and waveguide optical solution, with a planned release in early 2026.

Avicena demonstrates a fully operational microLED optical link operating at Tx power of 200 femtojoules per bit

Avicena, a developer of microLED-based chip-to-chip interconnects, announced a major milestone as it has demonstrated a fully operational microLED-based optical link operating at an industry-leading Tx power of 200 femtojoules per bit (fJ/bit) at <1E-12 raw bit error rate.

The company says that this achievement highlights the efficiency of its scalable LightBundle platform for high-performance computing and AI data centers.

Alphabetter raises its Series A+ funding round, as it expands its microLED inspection systems globally

China-based microLED inspection systems developer AlphaBetter successfully finalized its Series A+ financing round, raising several hundred millions of Yuan (likely something between $30 to $100 million USD).

Several investor participated in the round, including GuoZhong Capital, AnXin Capital, Puhua Capital, Xiamen Financial Innovation, and Siming Science & Technology Innovation Fund.

Asus launches a 162" 4K microLED creative display

Asus announced a new large microLED display, the ProArt Cinema PQ09U, targeting large-scale creative environments. This is a 162" 4K (27 PPI) 0.93 mm panel, that offers 1,200 nits peak brightness and a 97% DCI-P3 color gamut. Asus did not yet detail when it will launch the new display, or at what price.

This is Asus' second microLED display, following the 2023 ProArt Cinema PQ07, that was a 135" 4K 2,000 nits panel (yes, specifications were actually better in the 2023 panel). The PQ07 carried a price tag of $200,000.

Meta launches its first AI AR glasses with an LCoS display

Meta introduced its first AI smart glasses product with a display, the Meta Ray-Ban Display. The device includes a display projected on the right lens, based on an 5,000 nits LCoS panel, provided by Omnivision, with a waveguide provided by Lumus.

Meta says that the battery life in "mixed use" will be around 6 hours. The glasses will ship on September 30 in the US, starting at $799.

Saphlux and Vuzix to co-develop optical solutions for microLED powered AI/AR glasses

MicroLED developer Saphlux announced that is has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with AR developer Vuzix, to co-develop high performance optical solutions for next-gen microLED-powered AI/AR glasses.

In this partnership, Saphlux will supply its T1 (first-gen) 0.13" monochrome microdisplay for Vuzix to incorporate it with its proprietary waveguides and system design expertise. Looking forward, the two companies plan to expand their collaboration to develop a full-color AR optical solution.
