Trendforce projects that the microLED-based CPO market will emerge in 2028, reaching $848 million by 2030

TrendForce says that microLED-based optical communication, offering low power consumption and low error rates, is emerging as one of the three major short-distance, high-speed intra-rack transmission solutions for scale-up data center networks, alongside active electrical cables (AEC) and VCSEL-based near-packaged optics (VCSEL NPO). 

The high demand for AI datacenter communication solutions, will drive fast growth, and Trendforce projects that microLED co-packaged optics (CPO) will start to scale up in the second half of 2028, and will quickly ramp up to $848 million by 2030.

Toray Research Center hosts an open webinar to discuss microLED display analysis and technologies

Toray Research Center (TRC) is hosting an open online webinar, with lectures focused on microLED displays and OLED materials analysis and evaluation. TRC, which supplies technical analysis and support for R&D and manufacturing, invites you to attend the online lectures at no cost to gain a deeper understanding of microLED technologies and the analysis of display devices. The first lecture discusses new analytical technologies for morphology, structure and property evaluation. During the lecture, TRC researchers will discuss the center's In-Situ Heating TEM system, and how it enabled the reproduction and visualization of the bonding strength enhancement process induced by thermal treatment. Other topics in this lecture will include temperature- and humidity-controlled  nanoindentation measurements, AFM-IR for nanoscale functional-group and structural analysis, and the analysis of metal-organic complexes in liquid.

Raysolve demonstrates its latest microLED microdisplays at SID Displayweek 2026, progresses towards mass production

Raysolve Optoelectronics has demonstrated its latest microLED microdisplays at Displayweek 2026, both monochrome and color versions. The company also demonstrated a range of AR waveguide solutions developed with partners. 

The PowerMatch 1 monochrome green microLED display achieves a brightness of 7 million nits (10 lumens of luminous flux). The company says that this high brightness is an improvement over previous versions in both device brightness and optical efficiency, achieved by its continuous refinement of manufacturing processes and optical architecture.

Sitan Semiconductor and Changelight to co-develop automotive microLED displays

MicroLED display developer Sitan Semiconductor announced a strategic partnership agreement with Changelight, LED epiwafer producer, with a strong presence in the automotive-market.

It seems as if this partnership is mostly focused on automotive microLED applications. The two companies aim to collaborate and co-develop high-performance microLED for automotive displays. Chagelight will likely contribute its high-performance microLED sapphire epiwafer and chip capabilities, while Sitan will be in charge of developing automotive displays based on these microLEDs chips.

Hexagem raises 3.4 million Euro in its late seed financing round

Sweden-based microLED developer Hexagem announced that it has raised 3.4 million Euro in a late seed funding. The round was led by Almi Invest and LMK Forward, with participation from the European Innovation Council Fund, Almi Invest Greentech, and S-E-Bankens Utvecklingsstiftelse.

The company says that the funds will be used to advance its 200mm wafer-scale development, expand partner-led device integration and accelerate commercial pathways for the company’s breakthrough microLED materials platform.

Crystal Matrix to establish a $336 million USD microLED epiwafer and module production line in Gujarat, India

Last year we reported that India's Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) is considering supporting the construction of a microLED production line in India, or to support the establishment of a supply chain for microLED development and production.

Yesterday the Indian government has approved a new project in Gujarat, by Crystal Matrix Limited, to establish a microLED and mini-LED production facility. The new fab, to be located in Dholera, Gujarat, will produce 6-inch GaN microLED and miniLED wafers, and will also produce mini-LED and micro-LED displays. The project's total cost is estimated at 3200 Cr INR (or about $336 million USD).

VueReal demonstrates a 10 micron 410x502 RGBG solar-integrated microLED EcoVue wearable display

VueReal is demonstrating its latest EcoVue smartwatch display at SID Displayweek 2026. The display is a 1.9-inch panel that offers a resolution of 410x502. The microLED display has an integrated solar panel (VueReal demonstrated such displays before) to harvest energy and improve battery life.

The new 1.9" EcoVue panel has a RGBG microLED pixel architecture. Vuereal says that its EcoVue platform is built around four key pillars: a cost-optimized display pathway, mass transfer leadership, efficient wearable architecture, and manufacturable design.

Tianma shows its latest transparent and automotive microLED display prototypes at SID Displayweek 2026

Tianma is showing two new microLED display prototypes at SID Displayweek 2026. The first the company's first automotive tiled transparent display, a 19" 60% transparency prototype. The display uses three ultra-narrow-border panels joined with high-accuracy tiling to create a continuous viewing surface without visible seams.

The second display is a 12" microLED IRIS HUD, a that features a full-color microLED display designed for head-up display applications requiring extreme brightness and compact integration. Tianma says that with peak brightness exceeding 120,000 nits, the display maintains clear readability even under strong direct sunlight. The whole display engine is only 2 mm thick, and the thermal components are directly bonded to the TFT glass - thus supporting efficient heat dissipation and stable operation at ultra-high brightness. The design incorporates a fully transparent front-window optical structure without a black masking layer, preserving the driver’s field of view and enabling new HUD form factors.
